From cancer to health coach.
As a 45-year-old, perimenopausal, post-cancer warrior, strength training and yoga are my passion and I'm on a mission to help every woman I know, learn to move better, strength train, and change their mindset to love the body they are in today to use it to build the healthiest version of themselves for all the decades to come.
I call my approach to coaching The Phoenix Method because a phoenix rises from the ashes and transforms into a stronger, more resilient version of herself. Think about how many times you've had to rise, time and again. This is what women do.
After discovering bilateral breast cancer at 42, I had no choice but to do exactly that. To rebuild into a new version of myself. One that had to be stronger than the one before, to prepare for the future ahead.
Strength training is not just about building muscle, bones and improving joint mobility, we are building enduring strength, self-confidence, and mental & physical power to transform our health holistically.
We've never become stronger or more resilient with ease. Strength, mobility, and resilience require challenging your mind and body with consistency over intensity, and rebuilding your health that lasts a lifetime.

"Love Joy!! Her class was informative and I'm feeling 10x better leaving than when I walked in. "

"Another incredible class by Joy! I haven't been in several months due to work and other time commitments. The class has a range of ages, physical abilities, newbies and seasoned folks and Joy makes it accessible for us all! It's always a warm and welcoming environment, even when Joy challenges us with the various poses. I highly recommend trying this class or Slow Flow with Joy specifically. She is a gifted instructor. Yoga is a practice that's endured for centuries. Many, if not all, physical therapy exercises are derived from yoga postures and poses. Learning the breath and postures of yoga enable you to regulate your nervous system.
Muscle is an organ of the endocrine system which regulates hormones and for midlife women, nothing could be more important than doing everything we can to combat the symptoms of menopause. Skeletal muscle also secretes signal proteins called myokines that fight inflammation and tumor cells.
Learning controlled breathing through yoga to connect the mind and body is the easiest way to mindfulness. Life begins and ends with our breath and so does our peace.
When we develop the skills of breathing, combine those with the mobility practice through yoga, and work hard to create muscle and bone health, we can transform how we feel, function, and move through life.
